1. Purpose of This Policy
ShiftSupport engages minors (ages 14–17) for flexible, part‑time work opportunities.
This policy ensures that all minor workers are hired, scheduled,and supervised in compliance with California labor laws and federalregulations.

2. Eligibility to Work at ShiftSupport
ShiftSupport hires minors who meet the following criteria:
Ages 14–15 Eligible for non‑hazardous, part‑time work with strict hour limits.
Ages 16–17 Eligible for non‑hazardous work with expanded scheduling flexibility.
Under 14 Not eligible for ShiftSupport work.

3. Required Documentation
Before a minor can begin working, ShiftSupport must receive:

1. Work Permit (Required by Californialaw)
“Permit to Employ and Work”     issued by the minor’s school district Signed by the school,     parent/guardian, and employer Must be renewed each school year     and each summer
2. Parental/Guardian Consent
ShiftSupport requires:
Signed Parental Consent for     Background Check
Signed Parental Consent to    
Work with ShiftSupport
Parent/guardian contact information for emergencies
3. Identity Verification
Minors must provide:
Government‑issued ID (state ID, school ID, or passport)
SSN (for payroll and background check identity trace)

4. Background Check Policy for Minors
ShiftSupport conducts a limited, legally‑permitted background check for minors, which includes:
Identity verification
SSN trace
Sex Offender Registry search Global watchlist searchShiftSupport does not access sealed juvenile criminal records, asthese are not legally available.
A parent or legal guardian must authorize the background check.

5. Allowed Work Hours
ShiftSupport strictly follows California’s minor work‑hour limits.
Ages 14–15
School days: up to 3 hours
Non‑school days: up to 8 hours Weekly
max:
18 hours during school weeks
Work hours: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (extended to 9     p.m. June–Sept)

Ages 16–17
School days: up to 4 hours
Non‑school days: up to 8 hours
Weekly max: 48 hours
Work hours: 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. (12:30 a.m. on     non‑school nights)ShiftSupport’s scheduling system automatically prevents minors from beingassigned shifts outside legal limits

.6. Prohibited Work for Minors
ShiftSupport does not assign minors to any hazardous or restrictedtasks, including:
Driving motor vehicles
Operating power‑driven machinery
Working at heights (ladders,     roofs, scaffolding) Handling heavy equipment
Working in environments with     chemicals or hazardous materials
Security, enforcement, or safety‑critical     roles
ShiftSupport only assigns minors to safe, supervised, non‑hazardoustasks.

7. Supervision & SafetyRequirements
ShiftSupport ensures:
Minors are supervised by trained adults
Emergency contact information is always accessible
Minors receive safety training appropriate to their tasks
Minors are never placed in isolated or unsafe environments
Minors can contact ShiftSupport support staff at any time during a shift

8. Communication WithParents/Guardians
ShiftSupport maintains open communication with parents/guardians,including:
Confirmation of hiring Shift schedules
Emergency notifications
Policy updates
Access to the Parent Portal     (optional feature)

9. Zero‑Tolerance Policies
ShiftSupport enforces zero‑tolerance rules for:
Harassment or discrimination
Unsafe behavior
Working outside permitted hours
Misrepresentation of age or identity
Assigning minors to prohibited     tasks
Violations may result in immediate removal from the platform. 

10. Policy Update
ShiftSupport reviews this policy annually to ensure compliance with:
California Labor Code
California Education Code Federal Fair Labor Standards Act     (FLSA) FCRA & ICRAA background check laws.
